AB 1729 – ACSS-Sponsored Bill to Maintain Flexible Telework Passes in the Assembly

Posted: 5/28/2026

This year, we have been urging Legislators to support ACSS-sponsored Assembly Bill 1729 (Lee) to maintain flexible telework schedules for all State Employees. AB 1729 opposes the 4-day in-office mandate and would provide state departments with the ability to make sensible telework decisions. The implementation of AB 1729 would save tax dollars, reduce emissions and road congestion, and help the state recruit and retain key staff.

On May 27, 2026, AB 1729 passed in the Assembly with an official vote of 67-7. The Assembly added an urgency provision meaning the statutory provisions would take effect immediately if the bill is approved by the Senate and is signed by the Governor.

ACSS continues to sponsor and advocate for AB 1729. The bill now proceeds to the Senate where it will be referred to committees before being eligible to be heard on the Senate floor. ACSS will continue to keep our members apprised of any future activity related to this important piece of legislation.
