The Lobby Day Experience...

At Lobby Day, the goal is to unite ACSS members with legislators to educate them about the issues that affect the careers of excluded employees.

  • At the Training/Dinner, designated ACSS members will be informed about the process of Lobby Day and ACSS staff will guide the attendees on what messages to highlight when speaking to the legislators. There will also be a presentation by a Guest Speaker.
  • On Lobby Day, designated ACSS members will march into the Capitol Building to talk with legislators and discuss important issues.
  • Stick around afterwards for the Ice Cream Social in the Capitol Building to candidly mingle with legislators and ACSS members.  The Ice Cream Social is open to the public.

Lobby Day FAQ's for Designated Attendees

I didn't see a link to register. Can I just show up at the event?

No, registration is not open to all members. Since 2018, Lobby Day is now an "invitation-only" event. If you would like to attend Lobby Day, please contact your Chapter President

When should I book my flight?

After you have filled out the registration form, we encourage you to book travel arrangements to Sacramento. Please check the start times of the Lobby Day events to make sure you will arrive on time. Also, we encourage you to notify your employer and request time off as soon as possible.

How do I get to/from the airport?

You will need to arrange for shuttle service from the airport to the hotel, and from the Capitol to the airport. ACSS will reimburse you for eligible shuttle costs. We suggest booking in advance through www.supershuttle.com

How will we get to the Capitol?

ACSS will provide transportation between the hotel and Capitol via motorcoach bus. Luggage can be stored in the motorcoach during Lobby Day. If you are not staying at the hotel, you will need to drive yourself to the Capitol and park near the Capitol Building.

Who pays for my travel/hotel/food?

ACSS will provide dinner for registered attendees on Lobby Day Training. On Lobby Day, lunch is "on-your-own" and ACSS will provide a list of recommended eateries within walking distance. A designated amount of lunch cost will be reimbursed to you in your stipend. ACSS master bills a block of hotel rooms for attendees. We will also provide a stipend for other applicable costs (e.g., mileage, airfare, other meals, etc.) for attendees.

Can I get a Travel Advance?

No, ACSS is not accepting Travel Advances or individual Expense Claim Forms.  We will mail out a stipend check to cover travel expenses.

What do I wear?

All members attending Lobby Day wear official green ACSS polos or button down shirts.

What do I say?

Official talking points will be provided at the training.

Why aren't we lobbying for ________?

In order to focus our energy on making real gains with our legislators on Lobby Day, we are only able to focus on a few issues. We may have 3-5 minutes to speak with a legislator, and we need to make that time count. Issues are selected based on member surveys, political climate, and many other factors. Remember: We can fight for other issues at district office visits, too.

Can my spouse come? (Or friends, or additional family members, or additional co-workers?)

No. Only ACSS MEMBERS are allowed to attend. ACSS works diligently with our legislative liaisons to carefully coordinate time slots and meeting capacities with legislators. In addition, food counts have been submitted well in advance of the event and are tallied for the attending member only.

I have not received a confirmation letter, or any other materials for this event.

If you have not received any of these types of confirmations or mailings, please contact ACSS headquarters immediately and we will check to see if your registration processed properly.

Something came up and I need to cancel. What do I do?
