Personnel said "no raise" til ACSS stepped in

It took a few months, but thanks to ACSS, I got what I deserved: A 3% raise and backpay.

I was demoted in lieu of layoff a few years ago when CDCR was downsizing and I slowly worked my way back up to the same supervisory position. Like many excluded employees who have been topped out for years, I was eagerly awaitng my raise when the 3% bump hit in July.

I tore open my paystub in July. No raise.

So I went to Personnel.

Personnel told me that my previous years of service in the same position wouldn't count and the 3% raise wouldn't apply. That didn't sound right to me.

Luckily, I called ACSS and Labor Relations Representative Regina Jenkins stepped in to see what could be done.

ACSS reached out to their contacts at CalHR, who confirmed that (like I thought) I was entitled to the raise. Unfortunately, CDCR still insisted that I was still not eligible for the 3% raise.

I didn't want to file a grievance and make life difficult at work if I didn't have to, so Regina went back to her contacts at CalHR and asked them to fix this.

Within a few weeks, I got a check for full backpay. And I got confirmation I'll get the 3% increase from this day forward. All thanks to Regina and ACSS' great relationship with CalHR.

Thanks!
